Hey everyone, we’re back, and preparation for this years IGNITE! Youth Festival is in full swing. While we get everything up and running, we encourage you to get subscribed to our Twitter and Facebook channels, so we can keep you updated and informed on all this years happenings. If you want a taste of what you’ll be getting this year (outside of an incredible week of Youth for Youth entertainment), check out our initial list of workshops here.

This year’s amazing week of shows has come to a close!

We’ve started to put up pictures from the festival with shots from The olivia Project and Fruit Basket. Be sure to check back in the coming weeks for complete galleries of all the nights.

What have you missed?

Monday night was our toe tappin’ music night Toast of the Town, which featured everything from classical guitar to traditional Quebecois folk tunes and highlighted by ruckus dancing and super intimate sit down song-smithing. Finally capped off with a hip hop dance party courtesy of Panther & the Supafly.

Tuesday night we had the second annual olivia Project, a chocolate box of surprises that brought us from traveling gypsies to giant-spider infested nightmares, creepy marionettes, sound collages questions about God and masturbation and much much more.

Tonight we have Danse Cabaret and, all week long in the VanCity Culture Lab, we have the IGNITE! Young Playwrights Festival which is three one act plays running in rotation – two each night.

Please join us each of the next four nights for to see the best young talent performing this city!

Circus Workshop!

Want to learn how to juggle? How about poi spinning, or even some clowning skills? The IGNITE! Youth Panel is holding a free circus skills workshop this Saturday. (see event on facebook event.)

..and a reminder that the Film Contest deadline is this Friday, and we are still accepting visual art submissions up until April 11th.

Visual Arts Callout and Film Contest!

We are looking for visual art submissions in all medias – from installations to paintings to photography, we want it all! This year’s theme is Nature vs. Nurture, which is completely open to your interpretation.

IGNITE! is proud to be holding our first ever film contest! If you have a film in the making or one that’s been sitting on your shelf for a while, then you should consider submitting it to IGNITE! Winners receive cash prizes and get their films screened during this year’s festival.

Don’t delay: Last day to send in your film is April 1st, and visual art is April 11th.

Have you ever been interested in creating your own comics?

We know you have. The IGNITE! Youth Panel and IGNITE! Festival invites you to participate in an awesome comic workshop led by local artist John Christmas.

This Saturday you will have the chance to learn about the art of comics. Topics touched on will include history, creative process, and the interaction between writer and artist – plus anything else you might be curious about. There will also be a hands-on element where participants will have the opportunity to work on their own project and play around with the help of a professional.

Plus there will be snacks.

Please bring your most trusted writing/drawing implements and if you like, an example of a comic or graphic novel that inspires you.

Most importantly, bring your creativity!
