Tomorrow night is the ever so famous Fruit Basket. This year we have a super awesome new feature: A “Drag Make-Up Station”! So come dressed in drag, and visit the booth to complete the look. A couple of Mary Kay representatives will be prepared with glitter, gems, and of course, make-up. Feel free to take a photo of yourself afterwards and tweet it our way @IgniteArtsFest!

A couple of our youth panel members made their way down to Vancouver Coop Radio Station’s headquaters, and were interviewed about the upcoming festival. They covered everything IGNITE! from youth panel to auditions, as well as some performer spoilers!

The people who organize it and are performing in it are youth, even the people who are doing lighting and sound are youth.”

 

Arts Rational airs on Vancouver Coop Radio 102.7FM, every Thursday night at 9PM (PST). It covers everything that goes on in the Vancouver arts scene including local theatre, dance, visual arts, poetry, performance art, writers, music and original radio dramas. We’ve also completed the process of selecting this year’s performers! We will be announcing them to the public (that’s you!) before the month is over! Monday night was our toe tappin’ music night Toast of the Town, which featured everything from classical guitar to traditional Quebecois folk tunes and highlighted by ruckus dancing and super intimate sit down song-smithing. Finally capped off with a hip hop dance party courtesy of Panther & the Supafly.

Tuesday night we had the second annual olivia Project, a chocolate box of surprises that brought us from traveling gypsies to giant-spider infested nightmares, creepy marionettes, sound collages questions about God and masturbation and much much more.

Tonight we have Danse Cabaret and, all week long in the VanCity Culture Lab, we have the IGNITE! Young Playwrights Festival which is three one act plays running in rotation – two each night.

Please join us each of the next four nights for to see the best young talent performing this city!

This year’s theme is Nature vs. Nurture, which is completely open to your interpretation.

IGNITE! is proud to be holding our first ever film contest! If you have a film in the making or one that’s been sitting on your shelf for a while, then you should consider submitting it to IGNITE! Winners receive cash prizes and get their films screened during this year’s festival.

Don’t delay: Last day to send in your film is April 1st, and visual art is April 11th.
