Jenn Edwards

Jenn is an emerging dance artist based in Vancouver. Once a competitive figure skater, she holds a BFA in dance from Simon Fraser University and is a co-founder of Triadic Dance Works, a budding contemporary dance collective. Jenn has danced in work by Judith Garay, Rob Kitsos, Joe Laughlin, Karen Jaimeson, Mark Haim, and Justine A. Chambers, among others. She is delighted to be performing some of her own choreography for IGNITE!

Svava Tergesen

Svava was minding her business one day in grade nine when two friends accosted her and insisted she participate in a local Bhangra class. Since that fateful day, Svava has become immersed in the culture and vibrance of all types of Indian dances ranging from Hindi Filmi, Bhangra and Bharata Natyam. She could not be more grateful to those two individuals who forced her into the class, and to have the opportunity to perform in IGNITE! 2011.

Lamondance: Skirmjan

Skirmjan (meaning “to defend, protect”) reveals a giant chess board controlled by its human counterparts. Combining physical intensity with precision and speed, each player must confront their fragile self while attempting to surpass their emotional limit.

Lamondance is a contemporary training and performance company for aspiring professional dancers based in North Vancouver.

Youth In Motion

Youth in Motion is the Shadbolt Centre For the Arts community modern dance company for dancers ages 9 to 18. YIM provides young dancers with technical training, performance and composition skills. The company aims to instill respect for and commitment to the work with a focus on exploration, improvisation and expression.

Ingrid Nilson

Ingrid wrote her last final exam today and wants you to celebrate with her! She doesn’t know what’s going to happen now considering that this dance is as planned as the Shakespeare test she just took. Her birthday was 7 days ago, she’s been recording a voice series (Strawberry Shortcake for animation) and studying theatre at UBC. Oh, and the play she directed is playing next door! Check out “Hide and Go Sell” for a good giggle!

Philippa Myler

After completing a BFA in Dance and a BA in English at Simon Fraser University, Philippa Myler co-founded Triadic Dance Works, an innovative contemporary dance collective committed to broadening the audience for dance by performing at non-traditional venues. Since graduation, Myler has been privileged to work with Eury Chang, Claire French, and Justine Chambers. Myler performed an original solo at the Firehall’s 12 Minutes Max 2010, and was commissioned by the Port Moody Arts Centre to choreograph a full-length showcase of Wearable Art. Myler enjoys teaching dance in Vancouver, Burnaby, and West Van. (photo by Dan Cento)
